Founded as an orphanage in 1836, CHD is Michigan's oldest provider of specialized services for children and families. Children's Home of Detroit is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that cares for children of all races and creeds.
CHD's Vision and Mission
To have a profound impact on the children and families in our care so
that they may lead productive, healthy lives in their communities and to
provide a gold standard of programs for children and families through assessment
and individualized therapeutic care.
Today
The focus is on serving troubled children, most diagnosed as emotionally impaired.
The Children's Home of Detroit has moved to fill the gaps in mental health
treatment for young people and their families by providing an environment
that fosters learning and growth as children develop positive feelings toward
themselves, parents, family and peers.
Residential and Respite Services
CHD offers specialized
residential services at its campus located in Grosse Pointe Woods.
Other unique programs include the National Institute for Trauma
and Loss in Children. CHD offers services
for boys and girls ages 5-17. Our campus provides
Residential and Respite programs in an open setting.
TLC
CHD's National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children, (TLC), on the
Grosse Pointe Woods campus, provides certification training, education
and resource materials for clinicians, educators, parents and others
nationwide who work with children recovering from a tragedy or significant
loss.
Funding
Funding for CHD programs comes from government sources, contributions and
grants, and investment income. The generosity of individuals, corporations
and foundations supplements the shortfall from state funding and makes it
possible to fulfill our mission of providing quality services to children.
Accreditation
The Children's Home of Detroit is accredited by the Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. It is
licensed by the State of Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry
Services. CHD is in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act of 1996).
